This benefit concert was an exceptional event on all counts. Two legendary Canadian icons performed with all their heart and soul to an intimate gathering of 250. The music and the speeches tugged at the audience’s hearts and outlined the challenges we face, while giving us faith in the future.

Jay Douglas confirmed why he has been  described as a treasure trove of Toronto-Jamaican musical history. The All Star Band had everyone energized and singing along. His vibrant career spans over five decades. It has been captured on film in the Play It Out Loud documentary that has just been released. Jay’s commitment to a better future resonated in his words and music- reminding us to embrace our grandchildren.

Jackie Richardson’s powerful and soulful voice once again rose in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign. The recipient of countless awards, she has been called Canada’s reigning queen of jazz, blues and gospel. Her passion and long term connections to Jay and the attendees transformed the concert into a communal hug.

Special thanks to the longstanding and new supporters, sponsors and donors.

So much to celebrate and recognize: the lifelong contributions of Stephen Lewis to humanity, the 20th anniversary year of the Grandmothers to Grandmothers campaign and  an amazing 15 years of innovative fundraising events by Grandmothers Partnering With Africa.
